Hiking Schedule

Upcoming outings:

Sunday, April 26 ~ Codfish Creek Falls Hike This free family-friendly hike along the North Fork of the American River starts near the Ponderosa Road Bridge. A perennial favorite this easy approximately 4 mile round-trip hike features scenic views of the river, close ups of wildflowers and a spectacular waterfall. Our pace will be leisurely as we seek to ID wildflowers, birds, butterflies and talk about American River ecology. The trail is suitable for families with closely supervised children as there are some sections where the trail is narrow and the drop-off steep. Bring a picnic lunch! Meet at 10:00 am at the Bowman Park & Ride. For more info. Contact Eric @ 530-885-8878 or email parc@jps.net.

Sunday, May 3 ~ Stevens Trail: Iowa Hill to the Wild & Scenic North Fork This strenuous historic well-shaded path was the primary trail connection between Colfax and Iowa Hill during the Gold Rush. A wire-cable bridge spanned the North Fork permitting miners, gold and supplies to flow freely between the two communities and beyond. The bridge is long gone but the Stevens Trail continues to enchant the intrepid hiker with its waterfalls, wildflowers and soaring river views. It’s about 8 miles to the river and back from Iowa Hill. For hike info. and meeting place contact Eric @ 530-885-8878 parc@jps.net or Tom Petersen @ 530-333-4911 email twcoyote532@hotmail.com
