Lawyer Bar Trail
MAP
25.2 miles from G.T.
moderate/steep 3 miles R.T.
FS 13E16
Devil Peak Quad sec 34 goes to Rubicon River from 11 Pines Rd.
This trail pre-dates the construction of 11 Pines Road in 1964 and used
to go down to the Rubicon River from Wentworth Springs Road. The upper
section was erased by the construction of FS road 13N91 down to 11 Pines
Road. The trail continues down to the river with about 1 mile of fairly
steep descent. Trail is approximately 2 miles down 11 Pines Road (FS
14NO8). Great swimming hole just downstream from the where the trail
meets the river.
Lawyer Bar Trail originally came down from the Wentworth Springs Rd.
before 11 Pines Rd. was built in 1964. A logging road was later
constructed on the trail between the ridge trailhead down to 11 Pines
Rd. creating it’s present trailhead there. This trail is short and
moderately steep but takes you to a fabulous swimming hole in the
Rubicon River. I know people who routinely bypass the good swimming at
Stumpy for the better swimming here.
Directions:
Take Wentworth Springs Rd. 23.1 miles to turn L on the signed turnoff to
Hell Hole/French Meadows. Drive 2+ miles and look for a large rock on
the left side of the road (marked with yellow paint) just past a logging
road coming down on the right side (13N91). The trailhead is sometimes
marked with a plastic sign but usually the sign escapes elsewhere.
The Trail
winds moderately down to the river through shady Ponderosa Pines and
Kellogg’s Black Oak. The final section gets steeper and care is needed
to make the river shore. If you enjoy swimming this is the place! Please
don’t harass the resident rattle-snake, he keeps the local rodent
population under control.
